I think you forgot to mention that, during import, you need to check the "create materials" checkbox. By default, this seems to be set to "off"

Actually I want a modular character which can customise it's outfits but facing orientation problems with Blender. Need for Unreal character.

This is really useful. Thanks! One question… when I played the character in the game afterwards it is 'floating' off the ground. How do I correct this? I tried resetting the translation for every body part in case it was one of those, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Very helpful and informative, Greatly appreciated!

Im using my MakeHuman as a BaseModel than Importing it into Blender to add in all the fine little details as well as the shading from than it will go into UE4 been working with this method and you can really make some beautiful characters the MakeHuman Plugin for Blender makes rendering animations much easier I highly recommend new solo indie developers to try it this way it helps and saves a lot of stress from worrying about how to make your base mesh also another wonderful added thing is Makehuman aswell as Blender are both Free and Commercial Free meaning anything rendered in the programs can be sold in your game as long as its an asset of for example a Ue4 Project Hope this info helps some people and new comers Iv been a solo dev whos worked in both 2D and 3D games for 15 years since I was a kid and working on personal projects in my free time and this has definitely made my life easier!

The top programs I recommend for new comers and someone who doesnt have a lot of money to pay for programs or to hire people but still want to make a video game!

All Programs are Free and Commercial Free

    GIMP
    MAKEHUMAN
    BLENDER
NAVIDA TEXTURE TOOLS EXPORTER STANDARD [I use this to render out the Normal Maps, This only works for Navida Cards]
    [FOR 3D DEVELOPMENT] UE4 ENGINE/UNITY
[FOR 2D DEVELOPMENT] RPG MAKER XP/VX-ACE
